Conclusion

In the history of mankind, periodically there come times when questions become abundant in number than answers! Today modern science has too many open questions-the foremost being: How is it possible that mind came into being in an initially 'lifeless' and 'mindless' universe? Which process gave rise to the human species, capable of elaborating the most profound insight into mathematics and the structure of matter; capable of exploring the entire cosmos and the very nature of life itself? Scientists today have simply resigned themselves and meekly surrendered to these questions by saying, to quote the great physicist Neils Bohr: "Unless we discover some still missing fundamental traits in the analysis of natural phenomena, we cannot reach an understanding of what mind is." The above questions do not find an answer here; rather the questions themselves dissolve and are resolved by the author's profound wisdom. Here is a book- a treatise on Mind- explaining in simple and clear language the origin, function and the greatness of Mind.

This book on Mind comes from one of the greatest living minds of this century -Yogiraj Vethathiri Maharishi. This treatise is a clear demonstration of the scientific approach of Maharishi to a highly philosophical subject - that too, a subject as complex as mind! Traditionally, for scientists, Mind is an incomprehensible enigma and for philosophers it is a vague and broad subject open to innumerable interpretations, on which anything can be said. As a result, a common man is at a loss to understand what Mind is. This lack of comprehension of one's own mind is the cause for all today's problems. Only when one understands his own mind he can understand the rest of the universe and only that universal understanding can give the maturity for man to lead a peaceful and harmonious life - harmony within himself and with Nature. It is this basic understanding that forms the thread of this book.

Throughout this book, 'Advaita' (philosophical monism) reigns supreme. Maharishi unfolds with amazing precision the process by which the unified force with its consciousness first manifested and evolved the fundamental particles; how the association of these led to the formation of systems; how consciousness permeates all such systems, manifesting in them by directing the functions of the system, and how it is inherent in the magnetism in man, the bio-magnetism, which becomes the human mind with the capability of cognition, experience and discrimination.

The author of this book is under no obligation to follow or pay homage to any particular tradition or school of thought and this sense of freedom guarantees originality and obviates bias. The message of this book cuts across the boundaries of various shades of philosophy and religions. With conviction and clarity of his revelation the author effectively and lucidly deals with so great a subject as mind even in so small a book as this. Behind every word of this book lies the yogic experience of the author. There is already enough literature to tell us what Mind does, but scarcely a book to say what Mind is. It is in this context that this book assumes a great significance.

In this book Yogiraj Vethathiri Maharishi logically integrates the Mind of man with the Mind of God, which is Gravity, or Nature. The most significant message of this work is that the order of function of the universe is the Mind of God, and that order of function in man is his Mind. Man is a part of Nature and as such, the Mind of man is a part of the Mind of God. In man as well as throughout the entire universe, it is the consciousness-the Gravity-that manifests as the order of function and hence mind is intrinsically a shadow of Gravity.

On the social plane, this book emphasizes that it is the mind that transforms our knowledge into action. For an ethical and integrated transformation, our minds need to be controlled so as to transform only preferred thoughts into actions. For this self-control and discipline we need a thorough understanding of the Mind including its origin and functions. This book gives this much-needed basic understanding not only to scholars but to laymen as well, thereby paving the way for a happier, more fulfilling life.

The real place for this book is not in a library but in one's own Mind. I read and re-read this book several times and with each reading the stature of the book is enhanced. To the extent that this treatise on Mind is absorbed, one can realize the Mind of God in himself, and when that is realized peace will be there, not only in one person but also throughout the world.

This is a book for all and for all time.

This book, a treatise on Mind, is authored by the venerable Yogiraj Vethathiri Maharishi, one of the greatest living Yogis in the world. The Maharishi himself has stated in his conclusion that this book is a presentation of knowledge that he was fortunate to receive through intuition and experience

The Maharishi has found that the mind of man and the mind of God are inter-linked through the ubiquitous existence of the magnetic field of the entire universe. The mind is a magnetic wave comprising a network in its functions involving several important parts of the body and includes eight integrated phenomena, viz., physical body, life force, bio-magnetism, genetic centre, brain, sensory organs, mind and soul; in the absence of any one of these eight phenomena there can be no function of the mind and hence there can be no organism. The genetic centre is the divine treasure of human existence. The genetic centre of man is linked with the central point of the energy particle and with the centre of the earth and all the planets. Every perception and feeling is recorded, registered and stored by the genetic centre. Those who have acquired the required extent of scientific and spiritual knowledge can understand these concepts.>

The Maharishi has stated that mind is the feeler of all transformations of the bio-magnetism into sensations which realise all experiences and reacts accordingly. Soul is the aggregate of all the experiences throughout time in the ages of formation, evolution and functional forces in the universe, which is transferred to the progeny continuously throughout evolution. Whatever one's thought, deed or sensory experience may be, it affects the magnetism of the whole body. All the qualities of a living being with its core principles descend from one generation to the next through the genetic centre, and in the genetic centre of the progeny all magnetic records of the ancestral qualities and potentialities are again transferred to the progeny without omission, just like a xerox. One's every act, whether thought, word or deed unfailingly results in pain, pleasure, peace or ecstasy, and in time every action gives an appropriate result to the does.

I venture to state that if every adult individual bears in mind what is stated in the previous paragraph as culled from Maharishi's treatise and acts accordingly by his thought, word and deed, it will bring pleasure, peace and ecstasy not only to himself but also to his progeny.

The Maharishi has observed that every child is conceived and born with all the imprints of the parents in the same manner as the seed of every plant is encoded with all the qualities and characters of the parent plant and shows every aspect as it grows. For enjoyment of pleasure, peace and ecstasy and development of consciousness to its perfection, the genetic centre must be maintained with health and morality by positive thoughts and virtuous deeds. These observations, and his further exposition that, after the death of an adult, the bio-magnetic centre with its characterised consciousness leaves the body and floats in the universal magnetic field and may get attached to another living person of similar qualities, would, in my opinion, lead us to conclude that there could be no such thing or place as heaven or hell. We must reap the consequences of our every thought, word and deed ourselves or through our progeny or after death through the process mentioned above.

The Maharishi is always very much concerned about the well being of humanity. Elsewhere, in his treatise Wisdom and Life, he has observed that experience in life and ability to work and earn for one's livelihood are both necessary for human life. Neither children nor the aged can work to earn, hence the others must work and earn for them to survive. This is Nature, and the family is where this has been followed from generation to generation.

In this treatise on `Mind' the Maharishi has observed that man is a social being from birth to death, and from morning to evening his life is linked with the labour, help, services, production and friendship of a large number of people all over the world. The Maharishi has drawn our attention as to how the food we eat and the houses we live in are the results of the efforts of a very large number of people without whom we could not have got them at all. Man is thus committed and benefited by maintaining harmony with one and all around him. So, one should be aware of doing every act without adversely affecting the happiness and peace of others. The Maharishi has further observed that with an enlightened attitude we must be ready to accept every person and event instead of blaming others for our lack of satisfaction and that tolerance, adjustment and sacrifice are attitudes to be fostered and followed in thought and action whenever and wherever necessary to maintain harmony.

I am grateful to the Maharishi for providing this treatise on `Mind' to the people of the world for their enlightenment and benefit. I pray for the Maharishi's good health and long life for humanity to benefit by his guidance.

I commend this treatise to all my brethren and sisters in the world.

With love and great regard to the Maharishi.

One's personality is the result of all the characters and behaviours of his mind. Mind is the man and man is his mind. Everyone has a mind; no one is without a mind. God is assumed to be the supreme principle, but only mind brings the principle of God into the human fold. Such an incomparable and divine mystery is the mind; it is a tricky and slippery principle that cannot be brought into our usual calculations of volume, force, time or distance. The wonderful principle mind is provided for humankind by the supreme powerful principle of the universe: God, the Nature. Therefore I worship all men and women of the world as divine manifestations.

As the force and consciousness cannot be separated from the Plenum (the Nature), mind cannot be separated from man. Man has the providential right to deal with his own mind and he enjoys or suffers all the results of his thoughts and actions as benefits or otherwise. Because of the free grant of the mind to man by the Supreme Being, we neglect to properly respect and realize the value of this treasure. Thus, the subject of mind is missing in all fields of life in teaching and research. Because of missing to realise the value of mind in the religions, men are tortured and killed to 'satisfy' and 'save' God. Because of missing the value of mind, the politicians give prominence to 'isms', as mankind remains suffering from poverty, illiteracy, illness and wars. Because of missing of the greatness of mind, the esteemed sciences and scientists have increased the power of killing men in larger numbers in a shorter time. Therefore, realising and respecting the greatness of mind is essential for all people of the world to enjoy a peaceful and purposeful life.

From my youth I was interested in the social welfare and peace in the life of mankind. For a long time I was swimming in the ocean of mind in order to understand its values, existence, functions and results. I could not realise the fact that the principle I was searching for was the very one in which I was swimming! In fact, in and around me only the great ocean of mind was ubiquitously functioning. All the time, in all my activities, the aim and focus of understanding the mind was ceaselessly going on. One morning. at about 4:00 A.M. all of a sudden an intuitive vision came to me. That was in this way: I was observing several objects, one after the other. I perceived that I am the mind wave, which is nothing but biomagnetic wave, taking all the shapes and images of my vision and at the same time I was feeling the results as enjoyable or otherwise. At this point I realised that only the mind as the biomagnetic wave takes the shapes and images of everything I perceive, and at the same time I, as the mind, am enjoying the benefits as pleasure, pain, peace and ecstasy. Already I knew that magnetism is the principle of two coalescent factors: 1) Gravity - self-compressive force and 2) the wave generated by the Vethons (infinitesimal primary energy particles). I could then easily understand the origin, existence, functions and results of mind. From that day onwards I dealt with everything in a holistic view, with awareness of the functioning of mind.

Sincere research on the mind will take one to the biomagnetic wave, which is the functioning principle and origin of mind. The internsified stock of the biomagnetic wave is in the Genetic Centre. Research on the Genetic Centre leads to the realisation of one's countless previous births throughout evolution as various species and finally will take one to the Vethon, the infinitesimal primary energy particle. Vethon will lead one to realise the Nature, the Plenum, with force and consciousness. The whole universe and all its wonderful functions are understood within the realisation of mind.

All the secrets of philosophy and science, even though blossomed in any person, must go to the human society and become the property of mankind. Under this concept I am presenting my knowledge of mind to the enlightened society of mankind, to be useful to everyone living at present and for the future.

One fact deserves mention about this treatise: unavoidably, in several places I have repeatedly expressed and emphasized certain concepts and facts. I have intentionally done this, only to help the reader to better remember and absorb the crucial ideas. This book on mind is my humble presentation in gratitude to the society. With my sincere best wishes to the philosophers, scientists and social leaders of the world I present this treatise on 'Mind'.

Dear sincere readers, philosophers, scientists and humanitarians! You have completed reading this treatise on "Mind". Everyone is the owner of a mind; every life activity is going on only by the mind. We must accept the fact that mind is difficult to grasp and a puzzling principle for research. As it is the core principle of life, without this knowledge no understanding will be complete. Understanding the existence, functions and results of mind is necessary for healthy, purposeful and successful living. I present this book to my fellow beings, brothers and sisters of the world with the knowledge I was fortunate to receive through intuition and experience. You, the reader, may have some different concepts regarding the subject that you are welcome to communicate and we will discuss together.

With sincere social responsibility the religious leaders and philosophers guide the people towards God realisation. Of course, we appreciate their services. In addition to realisation of God, realisation of mind is equally imperative. Knowledge of God enables one to understand the plenitude of potentials in life and be grateful for the countless natural treasures evolved from the plenum, force and consciousness. Only the mind is the utilising principle of all these treasures and knowledge, to achieve a beneficial and harmonious life. Hence, I earnestly request the leaders of society to focus their attention in spreading the knowledge of Mind. I would say, "Knowledge of God is religion and knowledge of the Mind is Science". One without the other can never be complete.

I convey my gratitude to those who rendered service in various ways to publish this book at the earliest. I wish every one of you a happy, healthy, prosperous and successful life.
